Littleton High School Counselor Honored by Colorado’s CollegeInvest
Brian Powers named October Counselor of the Month
LITTLETON – CollegeInvest, in partnership with the Colorado Council on High School/College Relations, is proud to honor Brian Powers of Littleton High School as October’s Counselor of the Month.
“High school counselors are unsung heroes, encouraging students to dream and accomplish their goals,” said Misti Ruthven of CollegeInvest, Colorado’s higher education financing resource. “Counselors often go unrecognized as champions for students to go on to bigger and better things and to follow their dreams.”
The Counselor of the Month program is designed to give counselors the recognition they deserve. CollegeInvest is a not-for-profit division of the Colorado Department of Higher Education.
Powers was nominated by his colleague Lucy Allen, who serves as Littleton High School’s post-grad specialist.
Allen spoke highly of Powers’ willingness to dedicate his personal time to bringing new and useful resources to the school – even after school hours. Some of these resources include an ACT prep class, character development sessions, extra tutoring sessions, and a suicide prevention program.
“Brian is an exceptional individual with a personality and work ethic that consistently energize and motivate his colleagues,” wrote Allen. “Powers is one of those rare people that steps up and says yes – to innovative ideas, to introducing exciting new programs, and most importantly to teenagers that are looking for answers and encouragement.”
